Biography
Master Beekeeper Deb DeWitt has kept bees since 2018 and maintains colonies at her home in downtown Atlanta, Chattahoochee Hills, Arabia Mountain, and Brevard, NC. She is an active member of the Tara and Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Associations, where she has held officer and board positions. She manages the Tara/MABA teaching apiary in Decatur and teaches new beekeepers at schools, in her local community garden, and in the Georgia Beekeepers Association (GBA) prison program. Deb became a Certified Beekeeper (UGA) in 2019 and a Master Beekeeper (Cornell) in 2022.
When the opportunity arises, Deb also collaborates with local tree companies to save wild bees living in trees. This involves preserving the trunk section containing the nest cavity and relocating it, with the bees intact inside, to a new site where they can continue to live without further disruption from humans.
